Bowiea volubilis AKA the Climbing Onion or Sea Onion. Bowiea is a bulbous genus of perennial, succulent plants which thrive in dry and desert regions of eastern and southern Africa. It is native to a region stretching from Kenya to Cape Province.
A very easy to care for succulent bulb which produces profuse climbing vines as it matures.
Younger plants display grass-like blade leaves until the vining behavior starts. We have young plants at various stages in nursery pots. The lower price point for 2 inch pots are for plants which have not yet begun vining.
This plant will enter dormancy and the vines will die back in the fall but resume growth late winter. See the last reference for what you can expect by next year. Once it gets going the growth rate is incredible.
Do not over-pot.
These may be picked-up potted in San Francisco, otherwise ship bare-root without pots.
